Annual Convention

The Philippine Society for Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology, in
cooperation with Silliman
University, cordially invites
you to attend the 31st PSBMB
Annual Convention. This year’s
theme focuses on the role of the
biosciences in industry. The
convention will be a forum on
current research in biochemistry,
molecular biology, biotechnology and
other related fields and will also
highlight their industrial
applications.
The 31st PSBMB Convention will be
held on 3-4 December 2004 at the
Bethel Guest House, near Silliman
University in Dumaguete City.
Dumaguete City is the heart of
Negros Oriental. It is popularly
known as the City of Gentle People.
This city is a drive away from Bais
Bay, a popular place to watch
dolphins play.

About the Host
The Department
of Chemistry of Silliman University
(SU) hosts this year’s annual
convention. Silliman University is
often referred to as the ‘University
of the Philippines of the South’
because of its well-earned
reputation for high academic
excellence. This university is a
63-hectare campus established by the
American Presbyterian missionaries
who came to Dumaguete a century ago.
It is the oldest Protestant
University in the Philippines. With
towering portals welcoming you to
opportunity, service and knowledge,
the campus and its vicinity are
truly a testament to nature’s
beauty.

Call for
Papers
PSBMB members and
interested participants are invited
to send in their papers for oral or
poster presentations, which must
contain new data that has not been
presented in any scientific
conference in the Philippines.
Abstracts should have maximum of 300
words in text or Microsoft Word
(DOC) or Rich Text Format (RTF)
format with the name of the
presenting author underlined and the
affiliation included. The text
should be12-point Times New Roman,
single-spaced, justified paragraphs.
The title should be in bold capital
letters. Send abstracts via email
not later than 15 September 2004

Presenting authors of accepted
papers (oral and poster) will be
notified by 15 October 2004.

The convention is an excellent
opportunity for commercial
organizations to exhibit their
products and services. Ample
space will be provided for the
exhibitors. Those interested,

Young
Scientists' Forum (YSF)
The Young
Scientists’ Forum (YSF) was
established in 1995 as a
competition for undergraduate
student research work.
Interested participants are
requested to send their
abstracts for inclusion in the
forum indicating entry to the
YSF.

Membership to
the PSBMB is open to
professionals and students in
the field of biochemistry and
molecular biology from academic,
research and industrial
institutions. For more
