ADELAIDA BENDAÑA-BROWN, PhD
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to biochemical education and research in the country as Pioneer Filipino Biochemist. A nutritional biochemist, Dra. Brown with her graduate and undergraduate students in UP Diliman made significant contributions to our knowledge of the nutritional composition of various Philippine foods. Countless former students, now professional in various fields, remember Dra. Brown as disciplinarian – and a sincere and warm lady. After 44 year of teaching and research, Dra. Brown retired in 1971 at which time she was chairman of the advisory council of the UP National Science Research Center. Even in her retirement, Dra. Brown does her own research at their Tanay farm and continues to attend participate in PBS activities.

ANTONIO D. BUSTRILLOS, PhD
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to biochemical education and research in the country as a Pioneer Filipino Biochemist. At the UP campus at Los Baños in the 60s-70s,  Dr. Bustrillos was Mr. Biochemistry, personified, handling the general and advance biochemistry courses, advising countless undergraduate and graduate students on  their thesis and inspiring some them to go in to Biochemistry themselves. With a background in agricultural chemistry, plant pathology and biochemistry, Dr. Bustrillos’ researches revolved on biochemical and physicochemical qualities of rice, corn, coconut and some legumes, purification, serology and electron microscopy of the pea mosaic and tobacco mosaic viruses. As vice-president of the PBS in 1975-1976 and President in 1967-1977, Dr. AD Bustrillos contributed significantly to the growth and strengthening of the then very young PBS.

This has led to the training and completion of advanced degrees of several UPLB faculty  in the field of biochemistry in the past 12 years under Australian University International Development Program (AUIDP) now, IDP. Under this program, biochemistry experts from Australia have come to the Philippines to give lectures and training courses for many PBS members. Dr. Stone has also actively participated in PBS activities as speaker at seminars and the 4th FAOB symposium held in Manila in 1984. Dr. Stone, former Australian Biochemical Society President, continues to contribute to the advancement of biochemistry in the Philippines through his constant support to this staff development and exchange of scientists program.
